There’s A Lot Of Bad Advice Out There For New Moms...
FALSE Beliefs…
- It’s “normal” to experience neck and shoulder pain after you give birth. Just use a nursing pillow or a boppy.
- Just do core strengthening exercises and Kegels if you aren’t happy with how your belly looks or you’re feeling “loose” postpartum.
- Weakness and leaking are just a part of the recovery process. It will resolve itself with time (but months or even years later you’re still suffering…).
- Personal time doesn’t exist for new moms, you’ll just have to wait until the baby gets older.
The TRUTH Is...
- Nursing pillows can help, but they don’t treat the pain! Just because it’s common to experience neck and shoulder pain with nursing and carrying doesn’t mean it’s normal.
- Some exercises may help with your weak muscles, but others might make the problem worse! It’s important to ask a physical therapist which ones are right for you.
- Dealing with weakness and discomfort does not need to be your cost of admission into motherhood! They’re usually a sign that something isn’t right and needs to be fixed.
- Just because you have a new baby doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take time for yourself. Taking personal time refreshes you and means that you show up even better for your family.
When It Comes To Solving Something Serious Like Postpartum Pain Or Discomfort…
- You must choose the right provider to help you recover from pregnancy - whether it’s been a few weeks, months, or years since your delivery!
- If you don’t, you could end up suffering from postpartum issues longer than necessary and miss out on time with family and friends.
- It’s possible to recover from pregnancy naturally before your issues turn into a more serious problem. In fact, that’s the best way to live with less pain and discomfort so you can feel like yourself again.
- To do that, you have to not just treat the pain but have a provider who is willing to figure out what specifically happened during your pregnancy to cause the lasting issues.
At Magic City Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy We’ve Created A 3 Step Process To Help You Live With Less Pain And Discomfort So You Can Get Back To Being Your Radiant, Confident Self:
STEP 1
Look At The Whole Picture, Not Just Where It Hurts
Getting the help you need for your postpartum health issues can be exhausting. There are long waits for appointments, and once you get in there, there isn’t much one-on-one time with just you and the provider to take into account all of the information about your postpartum pain or discomfort.
Without that dedicated personal time, many medical professionals can miss important clues that allow them to treat each unique body, history, and type of pain the way you need it most.
That is why our first step is to have an open conversation with you and give you enough time to tell us your story.
We know the importance of having personal time for personal issues.
That way we get a deep understanding of what’s going on, not just with your problem areas, but with your whole body and how it’s impacting your life.
STEP 2
Come Up With A Treatment Plan Together
Many times, our patients have exhausted all of their treatment options without success before coming to see us.
That’s why we encourage you to share your history with us, along with any past treatments you’ve tried, so we can come up with the most efficient plan to get you back to your confident, radiant self.
You know your body the best, and you know what has worked and what hasn’t worked for you in the past.
That’s why we collaborate with you and bring our expertise to the table to create a plan to get you better and live with less pain and discomfort postpartum.
STEP 3
Get Back To Being Confident In Yourself And Your Body
Once we have a customized treatment plan, you’ll be on your way to achieving freedom from your postpartum health issues.
Before you know it…
You’ll Feel Confident In Yourself And Your Body
…and be able to enjoy the vibrant, worry-free life you deserve.
