Specialized Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy for Fertility, Reproductive Health & the Pelvis

Fertility and reproductive health are influenced by much more than hormones and reproductive organs alone. The pelvic floor, abdominal tissues, connective tissue, scar tissue, organ mobility, circulation, and nervous system all play important roles in the health and function of the pelvic region.

At Magic City Physical Therapy, we take a whole-body approach to reproductive wellness, using specialized pelvic floor physical therapy and visceral mobilization to address restrictions and areas of dysfunction that may be affecting the pelvis and surrounding structures.

Our goal is not to treat fertility itself, but to optimize the musculoskeletal and connective tissue environment surrounding the reproductive organs and help your body function as efficiently as possible.

How Visceral Mobilization Can Support Reproductive Wellness

Visceral mobilization is a specialized hands-on technique that addresses mobility and restrictions involving the organs and connective tissues of the abdomen and pelvis.

The reproductive organs do not exist in isolation. They are supported by surrounding fascia, ligaments, muscles, connective tissue, and other structures that allow them to move and function within the pelvis. Previous surgery, inflammation, endometriosis, C-sections, abdominal procedures, trauma, or chronic pelvic tension can contribute to restrictions and altered mobility within these tissues.

Through gentle, targeted manual therapy, we evaluate and treat areas of restricted mobility throughout the abdomen and pelvis. Treatment may focus on the tissues surrounding the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, bowel, and other structures connected to the pelvic region.

Visceral mobilization may be incorporated with pelvic floor treatment to:

  • Improve mobility of the abdominal and pelvic tissues
  • Address restrictions related to scar tissue and previous surgery
  • Reduce tension and restrictions throughout the pelvis
  • Improve mobility of the reproductive structures and surrounding tissues
  • Address pelvic pain and discomfort
  • Support healthy movement and circulation within the pelvic region
  • Improve awareness and coordination of the pelvic floor
  • Prepare the body for pregnancy and childbirth
  • Support recovery following pregnancy or gynecologic procedures

Fertility Support

For women experiencing difficulty conceiving, pelvic health physical therapy can be an important component of a comprehensive approach to reproductive wellness.

Your evaluation will look beyond the pelvic floor muscles alone. We assess the relationship between the pelvic floor, abdomen, hips, spine, connective tissue, scar tissue, and visceral structures to identify areas of restriction or dysfunction that may be contributing to pelvic symptoms or affecting overall pelvic mobility.

Treatment is individualized based on your history, symptoms, goals, and findings during your evaluation. Visceral mobilization may be combined with pelvic floor manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, breathing and pressure-management strategies, and education to create a comprehensive plan tailored to you.

Pelvic health physical therapy may be appropriate for women who are:

  • Preparing for pregnancy
  • Experiencing difficulty conceiving
  • Preparing for IVF or IUI
  • Managing endometriosis or PCOS
  • Experiencing painful periods
  • Experiencing pelvic pain
  • Recovering from a C-section or gynecologic surgery
  • Living with abdominal or pelvic scar tissue
  • Experiencing pain with intercourse
  • Recovering from a traumatic birth
  • Preparing for pregnancy after previous pelvic or abdominal surgery
  • Looking for supportive care during their fertility journey

Reproductive Wellness Beyond Fertility

Our reproductive wellness services are not limited to women who are actively trying to conceive.

We also work with women who want to better understand and care for their pelvic health throughout different stages of life. Treatment may address pelvic pain, painful periods, endometriosis-related symptoms, pelvic restrictions, scar tissue, sexual dysfunction, pregnancy preparation, and recovery following gynecologic procedures.

For women with a history of abdominal or pelvic surgery, including C-section, laparoscopy, laparotomy, D&C, LEEP, endometriosis excision, or other procedures, treatment may focus on restoring mobility to tissues affected by surgery and addressing restrictions that can persist long after an incision has healed.

Your Fertility Journey Deserves Specialized Care

Trying to conceive can be physically and emotionally demanding. Whether you are preparing for pregnancy naturally, pursuing assisted reproductive treatments, or simply looking for a more comprehensive approach to your reproductive health, pelvic floor physical therapy can be an important part of your care team.

At Magic City Physical Therapy, you will receive private, one-on-one care in a setting designed specifically for pelvic health. We take the time to understand your history and evaluate the entire pelvic and abdominal region—not simply the pelvic floor muscles.

Your reproductive health is connected to the rest of your body. Your care should be, too.
